Pictures! Oh my gosh, can you believe I took pictures? Anyway, crochet has been my craft as of late. I follow an awesome designer on Facebook named Kandice Oster. Her website is http://www.SweetKiwiCrochet.com/, and her Etsy store is at http://www.SweetKiwiCrochet.Etsy.com/. The other day she put out on Facebook that she needed pattern testers. Sign me up! I didn't realize it at the time, but it's virtually impossible to get to be her pattern tester, because she takes 5 per pattern, first-come first-serve basis. I just happened to see her post about 30 seconds after it was posted, and by the time my comment was submitted 3 of the 5 pattern sizes were already taken (luckily not the one I asked for). So this hat is temporarily called "Monster Hat" and I happen to know that right now she's got a contest going on Facebook to rename it. The hat is the perfect size for the boys, IF they'd ever actually leave it on their heads. I attempted to take pictures of it on them... FAIL. So instead we get pictures with "Big Baby," my daughter's doll her grandpa sent her for Christmas without really realizing how BIG this baby is. (As a reference, the dress she's wearing is one of our daughter's old dresses, size 12mo.)
My friend is having a "Very Hungry Caterpillar" themed birthday party for her son's first birthday, and she mentioned she wished she could crochet to make a hat similar to what she found on Etsy (via Pinterest). Challenge Accepted! I really like how it turned out, and I hope she does too. I used the basic hat pattern from "Monster Hat" (with permission from Kandice), and figured out the applique myself while looking at "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" book by Eric Carle that I checked out from the library just for this project. I had most of the yarn on hand; the only thing I ended up buying was the "Limelight" green. (I have tons of green yarn, but they were all more sage-like colors, and just didn't look right for "The Very Hungry Caterpillar.")
Next project: Another friend said she wishes she could crochet because she would LOVE to give her husband a "Beard Hat". I'd actually been looking at that "style" of hat, so I emailed and asked her if she'd be interested in possibly buying my "first". She said yes, so I got started already. I made the hat using my hat loom (the "men's" size, that I got for Christmas). Now I just need to pick up a little bit more yarn to do the beard... I have brown already, but I've got the crazy notion to use Lion Brand Fun Fur yarn to make the beard "scraggly". I'm excited for it! Maybe I'll actually even take photos of it and post them. :)
